Marianne Orena “Polly” Hinton (Friesen), 68, of Victoria, BC, died peacefully with her children by her side, on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was born in Winnipeg, MB, in 1951, to the late Dr. Gerhard (George) & Ellen Irene Friesen (Valentine).
Marianne grew up in rural communities of Manitoba, Rochester, Minnesota and Trail and Victoria British Columbia. As a child, she had many adventures with her siblings and cousins, which included many summers at the family farm and skiing at Red Mountain. As a young girl, she took her adventurous side in to the back of an unknown truck with her little brother and ended up in the neighbouring town! Little Miss Adventure! Marianne was full of love and was the peacemaker between her siblings.
Marianne, a loving sister, aunt, mother and grandmother raised three beautiful children, who were her pride and joy. Marianne was involved in their lives to the fullest; she spent endless hours working with the local football league and watched her sons and grandson play every game. She was the one on the sidelines yelling loud and proud! Marianne had great pleasure nurturing her beautiful daughter into an amazing mother and was her best friend. She continued that close nurturing of her grandson Sebastian, much to her delight. She was very proud of her children and their achievements and was happy to share that with others. While she had children and grandchildren of her own, she always had room in her heart for their friends; one of whom gave her the nickname, “Mommason”, which many referred to her as.
Marianne’s children will be forever grateful for what she did for them; she was their rock and will forever be their hero.
Marianne successfully worked at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for 30 years, and in her spare time enjoyed gardening, taking part in classes (especially boxing) and enjoying her time with friends at the Parkinson’s Wellness Project, and doing anything with her children and grand-children.
For those then knew Marianne, knew her well; and she would do anything for them.
Marianne is survived by her step-mother, Gertrude (Trudy); her siblings Ellen Lenore, Gerhard (Cal) Charles (Robyn), and Susanna Pentland (Shawn); children Mathew, Michael (Joan) and Mary-Ellen (Michael); her grand-children, Sarah, Sebastian, Marcus, Amelia and Charles; and her wonderful nieces, nephews and great-niece and nephew.
Marianne’s great smile, strong punch and delightful humour will be missed but not forgotten.
