March 08, 1934 - December 02, 2021
Marjorie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed peacefully on a crisp fall morning, surrounded by love and light in her home near Victoria. Born and raised in Vancouver, Marjorie Foster (née Smith) was the youngest of three siblings. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, George, her four children; Joy (Michael), Richard (Sharon), Nancy (Alf), Ginny (Dan), her eight grandchildren; Julia (Jody), Pamela (Danny), Michael (Adrienne), Andrew (Carly), Eliza, Steven (Sandy), Patty, Becca, and three great grandchildren; Clara, Rin, and Killian.
Marjorie and George moved their young family to Victoria in 1961. Marjorie quickly became known in the community for her many acts of service such as her time as a Brownie and Guide leader, and Commissioner with the Girl Guides of Canada; volunteering at Mt. St. Mary and Queen Alexandra hospitals; teaching Sunday School, playing piano for the Salvation Army children’s choir; and writing countless cards of encouragement.
Marjorie knit beautiful sweaters, toques, and blankets for many babies and children, who had a special place in her heart. She was a talented seamstress and made costumes for skating, Halloween, and other special events. She was an avid baker and an accomplished cook; there was always room for one more guest at her table.
Her children remember her as an exemplary mother, sharing her love of nature and sports. She lovingly ferried four children all over town to school, music lessons, sports, church activities and community groups, all while working alongside her husband at their denturist practice. She was also a big fan of Manchester United, Frank Sinatra, Yahtzee, and especially Christmas.
Marjorie lived an incredible life and leaves a legacy of love. She radiated an inner peace and held just a twinkle of mischief behind those sky-blue eyes. Her loving kindness, faith, compassion, hospitality, and sense of fun were gifts to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society. A family celebration is planned for a later date.
