Mary passed away peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of 64 years to retired Brigadier General John Neroutsos, cherished mother of Stephanie Rowe of Victoria BC (Eric) and Lara Neroutsos of Callander ON, loving grannie of Alexa, Leah and Elyn Rowe, and sister to Kathleen Metcalfe and the late Michael Williamson.
Mary was born in Matanzas Cuba to Scottish parents Peter and Ann Williamson. She attended her early school years in Cuba, but completed high school at Havergal College in Toronto. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1955 and held various positions at Air Canada, Alcan, and La Salle College. She married John in 1958 during the initial days of the Cuban revolution. Mary and John raised their two daughters in Beaconsfield on the West Island of Montreal where she enjoyed the wonderful sense of community. In 1996, Mary and John moved to Sidney BC. Mary was known for her warmth, devotion to her family and friends, and of course her great sense of humour. She loved to tell the story of asking her mother about the family history to which her mother replied "Oh your father's relations were pirates and mine were sheep stealers". Mary's granddaughters remember her as a firecracker with a huge smile and the best hugs. Mary and family shared memories and laughter in the final days of her life.
Special thanks to Dr. Sally Carver for her tremendous care and compassion. along with the staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Mary volunteered with the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary and was very proud of her 20 year pin. At her request, there will be no service. It is her wish that in lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary (https://www.sphaux.com/donate/).
