It is with heavy hearts we announce the gentle passing of Maureen on a warm October morning.
Maureen was born in New Westminster, she was the fourth of six children born to her parents William and Mary and the first to be born in Canada.
Maureen had a happy childhood growing up with her five siblings, there was never a dull moment in a very lively house.
Maureen left school early to work in a local cannery and later a pulp mill. Her father used to say every dime she earned she wore and she loved to spend her paycheques on clothes and shoes, much to her father’s dismay.
In the mid 40’s she met Joseph, after they married they resided for a short period of time in Burnaby. In the early 50’s Maureen and Joe moved to Victoria and her beloved James Bay, and soon daughters Chrisann and Tacey followed. Maureen loved to go downtown each Saturday to window shop either on her own or with her daughters in tow. She enjoyed hosting fun yard sales with her friends, and long walks along Dallas Road was one of her favourite pastimes. Maureen delighted in childminding and became more of an adopted family member to some. Later, the birth of her grandson and great grandson became her greatest treasure.
Maureen hated to cook and admittedly was not good at it, but she did serve up a mean chicken and rice casserole. Her lack of cooking skills did make for good fodder around the dinner table. She enjoyed a good laugh even at her own expense.
Maureen is predeceased by her mother and father and her five siblings Lily, Robert, Wilfred, Eva and Gerry, and her daughter Taceys’ spouse Michael
She is survived by daughters Chrisann (Kevin), Tacey, grandson Mackenzie (Nicole) and great grandson Jamie, also Kevin’s daughter Andrea (Scott) and granddaughter Violet and grandson Angus, and many nieces and nephews.
The family is thankful for Maureen’s many friendships at The Heights along with a very kind and caring staff that went above and beyond.
There will be no service at her request.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields until we meet again. Rest in Peace
