A native Victorian, Mike was born the 3rd of 5 sons to the late Joan (nee Clark) and Doug George. A few cities on Vancouver Island were home to the George Clan before their permanent return to Victoria.
Following his time of service in the RCAF (1966 – 1968), Mike signed on with the Liquor Control Board. A few years later, Mike transferred to the Provincial Government, and worked in various ministries prior to his early retirement in 2003.
Mike was a handyman extraordinaire. Self-taught, he became a skilled electrician, plumber, carpenter, and all-around ‘do-it-yourselfer’.
An original recycler, Mike was way ahead of his time; nothing went to waste.
Fishing trips, and hunting adventures (especially his first Elk) brought him great joy.
Other interests and hobbies included: car restoration, stamp, coin and watch collecting, reading, leather work, wood carving and building model ships, planes, trains and automobiles.
Never was Mike at a loss for words, and those who had occasion to engage him in conversation knew they should buckle-up for a good long ride.
Always up for a challenge, Mike faced his cardiac amyloidosis diagnosis with grit, determination, and his ‘cup half full’ optimism.
That challenge, however, ultimately became Mike’s one and only loss.
Predeceased by his parents, brother Danny and parents in-law, Bob and Terry Ferguson.
Those left to remember Mike with pride, love and gratitude are: his one true love, best friend and wife of nearly 49 years, Donna Mae (nee Ferguson); his daughters, Theresa, Corrinna, and Deanna (Jamie Roch), and grandchildren Braden and Kayla Mae. Also left to mourn his passing are: sister in-law Roberta Hammond (Bill, Bob, Laureena and their families), brother in-law Jim Ferguson (Donna), brothers Pat (Janette, Jason and family), Peter (Dianne, Chris, Allison and families), and Paul (Vana, Brianne, Krista and families).
Mike was an amazing friend to many and will be deeply missed by Brian and Glenys Parry (Vancouver), Phil and Brenda deVille Forte (UK), his good buddies Wade, and Ray, along with many more extended family members, friends, and neighbours.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the RJH – ER doctors and nurses for their kind, compassionate and exemplary care provided to Mike, and his immediate family, during this sudden, unexpected, and most difficult time of transition.
