Michael John Taylor, 83, of Vancouver, BC passed away in the early morning of June 10, 2024, at Mount St. Mary Compassion Hospital in Victoria, BC.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ellen Rita Taylor (nee McNeil) in 2006.
He is also preceded by his parents, Clifford and Joan Taylor, brother Jim Taylor, sister Betty Dohm and brothers-in-law, Murray McNeil, and Doug Curtis.
He is survived by his two sons, Scott Michael (Cathy Cutaia) and Todd Michael (Miranda Moore); two grandsons, Joshua and Finn; brother-in-law, Martin Dohm; sisters-in-law, Glenna Taylor, Karen Curtis and Jennifer McNeil; nephews David Taylor, Gregory Dohm, Lawrence Dohm, Daniel Curtis and Grant McNeil; nieces Mary Taylor, Pamela Brownstone and Stephanie McNeil and his longtime friend and companion, Sherry Regimbel.
He was born as the youngest of three children on September 24, 1940, in Kamloops, BC.
His father was a carpenter by trade and Michael became a very skilled carpenter himself before studying Civil Engineering at The University of British Columbia, following his older brother.
His professional career began with Marwell Construction in Vancouver where he met Ellen in 1965 and married in 1966. His career took him and his young family to Prince George, BC, Brandon, Manitoba and Kitimat, BC before settling in North Vancouver, BC in 1970 where he and Ellen raised their two sons.
Michael proudly worked for Dillingham Construction for 24 years and retired after numerous successful years running his own independent consulting practice, Sage Consulting. He loved his work, which provided a comfortable home and lifestyle for his family. His expertise in his field provided extensive travel throughout his beloved BC and Canada and around the world (England, Italy, Iran, China, and Columbia).
He was a devoted father and husband and always a good natured, kind, gentle, intelligent, proud, and compassionate man, who consistently put the needs of others before his own. He was physically strong, hardworking, and remained stoic through life’s challenges. Michael was a statically happy person, often smiling or cheerfully whistling.
He enjoyed swimming, curling, rowing, fishing, skating, driving, being outdoors, carpentry, watching hockey and baseball, painting, and spending time with family on trips to Hawaii and the family cabin in the Cariboo region of BC.
He is dearly missed by his family, friends and former colleagues who were all blessed to have been graced by his friendly and generous spirit.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the care teams at Michael’s final homes at Mount St. Mary Compassion Hospital and Amica On The Gorge. Details of a celebration of Michael’s life are to be determined.
