Monica Helen Banting

Monica was predeceased by her parents Walter and Violet Ellis and her loving husband, James (Jim) Banting.

She is survived by her sons Geoff (Sharon) and Chris (Bonnie) and her devoted daughter Louise. She is also survived by seven loving grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Monica was born and raised in Ilfracombe, England and this picturesque little seaside town in Devon held a special place in her heart throughout her lifetime. During the war, Monica met and later married a handsome young Canadian fellow she met at a dance. His name was Jim Banting and at the time, he was stationed in England serving with the Demon 401 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. When the war ended, Monica moved to her newfound Canadian home on the prairies as a war bride and she and Jim settled on the Banting family farm in Richlea, Saskatchewan. They later moved to Saskatoon and then Edmonton, before calling Regina home, which is where they raised their family. While living in Regina, Monica was an active member of All Saint’s Anglican Church and a founding member of the YWCA. Once Jim retired, they moved to Victoria, B.C. where Monica lived until her passing. While living in Victoria, both Monica and Jim were active members of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church.

Monica had many interests and over the years, she enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, cooking, curling, golfing, entertaining, knitting, painting, reading, travelling the world, cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and caring for her beloved basset hounds that she named after flowers. She was also known to enjoy the occasional glass of sherry with “only one ice cube”.

Monica lived a very full life and will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
