She was predeceased by her beloved Allan, her partner through many years of life and change. Myrtle will be dearly missed by her two daughters, her two grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren.
Born in Scotland, Myrtle lived through the hardships and separation of the Second World War, including the Blitz, before journeying to Canada with her Canadian soldier, via England in 1947, as one of the last War Brides. With quiet strength, she began a new chapter in a new country, creating a home for herself and her family.
Having lived in Ottawa, Paris, and Winnipeg, Myrtle and Allan finally settled in Victoria in 1990, to remain close to one of her daughters and her growing family. Myrtle became a familiar presence in the nearby community of Sidney, often seen well into her 100s walking through town, always ready with a handbag, a smile, a kind word, and a story for anyone she met.
Having been described as “touched by the fae,” Myrtle had a gift for conversation, story telling, and had a way of making others feel lighter in her presence. Her long life was rich in family, friendship, and conversation. She will be remembered not only for the years she lived, but for the kindness she shared so freely.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
