August 18, 1931 – January 4, 2025 (née Gray).
On January 4, Pat entered her eternal home – absent from us now and present with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She is survived by Bob, her husband of 69 years, her two sons, Bruce and Gord, daughter-in-law Carolyn and grandson Nathan. She was predeceased by both her sisters, Phyllis (Stan) and Margaret (Joe), and her parents, Archie and Roberta Gray.
Pat was born in Saskatoon, SK, the middle daughter of 3, and moved with her family at age 15 to Vancouver, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Vancouver General Hospital Nursing School in 1954. She met Bob square dancing at age 19, and they got married in 1956. A subsequent transfer for Bob brought them to Victoria in 1960 where Pat was an amazing mom to her two boys, and all the neighborhood kids knew her as Auntie Pat. Through the years, Pat worked as a hospital nurse, as the Director of Nursing at Mt Edwards Court Care Home, as a volunteer at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and as the trusted medical expert for her family and others. Pat shared her compassion, exceptional nursing skills and innate medical wisdom with countless people. Her warm heart, kind nature and contagious smile endeared her to everyone who knew her. Her generosity and service to others knew no bounds. She was a wonderful and welcoming hostess to friends and strangers alike. The spare bedroom was rarely empty, and the kitchen was always filled with her cooking and baking. Her strong faith in the love of God and hope of eternal life through faith in Christ were the underlying foundations of her life. Pat was game for any adventure, loved roller coasters and red Corvettes, and enjoyed reading, travelling and most of all – her family.
A service of memorial and tribute to Pat will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 25, at Elk Lake Baptist Church, 5349 Hamsterly Road, Victoria, BC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Pat’s name to Central Baptist Church where Pat was a member for many years, Focus on the Family Canada or Veteran’s Memorial Lodge (through Broadmead Care Society) where Pat was compassionately cared for in recent years.
