Paul Trevor Pierce

December 29, 1960February 9, 2020

Paul Trevor Pierce passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria on February 9th, 2020 at the age of 59. Paul was born in Calgary on December 29th, 1960 to Sylvia (Smith) Hogeboom and Trevor Jem Pierce.

Paul moved to England with his mother in November, 1963. He attended school in Leeds, Yorkshire, England completing his “O” levels before returning to Calgary in 1977 where he obtained his High School Diploma from Sir Winston Churchill Senior High School, Calgary in 1978.

After high school, Paul attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Calgary where he took a course in welding. He was subsequently employed as a welder apprentice and completed his apprenticeship in 1982 obtaining an Inter-Provincial First Class welding ticket and an Alberta B-Pressure welding ticket in March, 1983. Between 1983 and 1988 Paul utilized his welding skills in a variety of work situations eventually being promoted to Quality Control Inspector.

Prior to coming to Victoria in 1996, Paul spent time in various vocations and spent several years travelling both in Canada and the US. After settling in Victoria 20+ years ago, Paul developed many friendships while delivering the weekly paper in his neighbourhood. He was regularly treated to coffee by his clients, which always made Paul very happy.

As a young man, Paul was full of life enjoying being with his “mates,” always happy-go-lucky. He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humour and was always quick with a joke or to poke fun. At the same time, he was a kind, thoughtful person. Paul made friends wherever he went and as his health declined in later years, he always had a smile for whomever he met. Thank you to the staff at the Wellesley, Paul’s home for the past three years and a special thank you to Cobina, Catherine, Brenda, Armande and the chaplin, Peter who were at Paul’s side when he passed.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Sylvia, January 27th, 2017 and Trevor, May 11th, 2004, his grandmother, Catherine (Ashmore) Smith, March 17, 1994 and his Uncle Thomas, August 31, 2018 (England). He leaves to mourn his passing his companion of 30 years, Cobina Dehmke, his many cousins both in Canada and England, his longtime friend and caregiver, Wanda Borley, close friend and companion, Shirley McGee. A special thank you to Cobina, Catherine, Brenda Armande and Peter the Chaplin who were at Paul’s side as he passed.

There will be a celebration of life held at The Wellesley in mid-April. When the exact date is known this announcement will be updated with that information. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul can be made to either the BC SPCA or the Salvation Army.
