Mata ji was born in the village of Phander (dist. Hoshiarpur) to Subedar Bhag Singh and Bant Kaur Gill. Mata ji had three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her youngest brother who resides in India.
Mata ji and her husband, the late Sohan Singh Mashiana had three sons and one daughter. Their oldest son, Gurdip Singh Mashiana and daughter, Harminder Kaur Kular, both passed away in 2009. She is survived by her two sons, Balbir Singh and Jaswinder Singh Mashiana.
Mata ji and her husband joined their son Jaswinder Singh in Canada in 1986. Her husband passed away that same year, but Mata ji went on to call Victoria home for the next 30 years of her life.
Mata ji had a love for learning and was an avid reader. She was a religious woman who tried to pass on her love of Gurbani to all eight of her grand children.
Mata ji will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Her love and teachings will stay with them forever.
