Robson, Robert George passed away peacefully in Royal Jubilee Hospital on September 17, 2014 after a very brief fight with cancer. Bob was predeceased by his wife Goldie Aletha Robson (Smith). He leaves behind his only child Roy, his daughter in law Lisa and his only grandchild, Justine. Bob was 79 years young.
Bob was a prairie boy born in Virden, Manitoba, who longed to travel and see the world so he did what any prairie boy would do – join the navy where he served from 1953 to 1983. Leaving behind his large family of 7 brothers and a sister he was posted to Halifax after basic training. Through the years he was stationed at Halifax (Shearwater and Stadacona), Winnipeg and finally Victoria (Naden) where he retired. Subsequent to his retirement from the navy he worked as a civilian in Naden and Rocky Point for a number of years.
A very private man, Bob shared most of his life and activities with Goldie. He and Goldie loved to travel to Mazatlan, Mexico where they would stay months at a time. He felt a real affinity with the Mexican way of life and made some enduring friendships with a number of locals. He learned Spanish and was excited to demonstrate his skills during his visits.
In more recent years Bob’s time was spent enjoying the view from his apartment suite along the Gorge in Victoria. He took great delight in feeding and watching hummingbirds that frequented his balcony.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 23 at 2pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Lung Association of British Columbia (www.bclung.ca).
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Victoria, BC.
