Predeceased by his wife Shirely in 2010, his son Richard in 2012 and two infant grandsons Samuel and Jackson. He leaves behind his daughter Debbie, grandchildren Tanya (Greg), Derek (Teresa), Matt, Joe, great-granddaughter Mackenzie, daughter-in-law Frances and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was born and raised in Victoria and attended Willows Elementary and Oak Bay High. His career started at Wilson Motors as a young man doing body work. In 1956 he was hired onto Victoria Fire Dept and retired in July 1986 as Assistant Chief. For several years Bob coached soccer and little league at Hampton Park and was a member of the Gorge Old-timers Soccer.
Once retired, he became a Charcoal Gang member and enjoyed the monthly retirement luncheons at Uplands Golf Course. He was also a member of the Victoria Fire Department Historical Society, meeting the guys at Headquarters or the No 5 Hall to restore vintage fire trucks. This gave him great pride and he enjoyed riding the trucks in the May Day parade every year with his buddy Bob Rivers.
The family would like to thank Bob's friends for all their love and support over the years. Many thanks to Dr. Aikin for his years of dedicated care and compassion for Bob and family, and to the doctors and nurses who watched over Bob while he started on his new journey.
Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Victoria Firefighters Burn Fund "It's time to fold my tent and go home" Bob Whysker
