August 06, 1942 – July 24, 2021
On July 24th we lost our hero, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Ron’s first wife Marlee predeceased him in 1983. Ron leaves behind his wife Janis, sons Brett and Michael, step-son Andre, step-daughter Elyse, daughter in law Jamie and grandson Parker, as well as his sister Ilene and brothers Wayne and Kurt.
Ron was born in small town Deloraine, Manitoba but worked and lived internationally, which he was very proud of. Ron would always root for the underdog in life and in sports, and his life journey was filled with adventure.
The community he lived the longest in was West Vancouver; this is where he opened Bears Toy Store. The store became an icon in the district to the many fantastic people who worked for him over the years and the people that came to visit and embrace the laughter and fun that seemed contagious in his store. He later opened two other stores in Lonsdale Quay which fostered the same special energy.
Ron’s other joy was his love of sports. He shared this passion with his children and community by coaching and cheering at the games.
Once Ron retired he and his wife Janis started a new adventure together in Naramata where they enjoyed the many pleasures of the region and made life-long friends. Ron and Janis eventually moved to Victoria where they became a part of the remarkable community of neighbours and friends.
Ron’s goal in life was always to make people smile and bring happiness to other peoples lives. The memories we have with him will continue to be passed on as our family grows.
