Roy Melvin Walker

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Roy Melvin Walker, who made his heavenly journey on September 16, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Roy leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Roy was a devoted husband to Pauline Harris for 35 joyful years. Together, they created a lifetime of shared experiences and adventures, travelling across Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Australia.

He proudly served as one of the original Chief Stewards with the B.C. Ferries Corporation for over 30 years. Known for his deep knowledge of seamanship and his unwavering integrity, Roy led by example fostering a culture of teamwork and professionalism that influenced generations of mariners.

A true sportsman, he had a lifelong passion for athletics. He played fastball in his younger years and later became a highly sought-after slo-pitch pitcher, competing well into his 70s. His athleticism took him to the B.C. Senior Games and the Senior Games in St. George, Utah. Roy was also blessed with musical talent. An accomplished pianist who played by ear, and a natural singer with a melodic voice, he brought joy to many through his music. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather-both biological and step-Roy led with affection, wisdom, and warmth. He shared stories from his youth and adventures aboard the weather ship The Stonetown, inspiring all with his humour and insight.

Roy’s kindness, laughter, and sense of humour will forever be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Though deeply missed, his light continues to shine in the hearts of his loved ones. Predeceased by his brothers Bill and Tom, and by his son-inlaw Tom. Survived by his sister Christine Blais.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jim (Margaret), Douglas, Anthony, Edward, Lorraine, Brenda (Peter), Sandra, and Russell (Dawn). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Hamish, Mia, Alycia, Nicole, Jamie, Brandon, Dylan, and Ali; five greatgrandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
