Although a year has passed, we continue to honour and celebrate the life of our Mom and Nana, Patsy Stewart. Surrounded by the love of Patti (Glen), Cindi, Stewart, Adam and her grand dog Miya whom she “Loved to bits,” Patsy passed away in February 2024. Predeceased by her husband, Evan, infant son, Shawn and son-in-law Brian, Patsy leaves many family members and longtime friends with whom she was especially close. Her brother, Herb (Linda) and her cousins, Sharon, Monty (Sandy), Colleen (Peter) were an important part of her family circle. We are thankful for the loving attention from her nieces and nephews- Greg, Shelley, Dean, Mia and Darren. In particular, Mia and Mom shared a very special "Twin" bond, and we are forever grateful to our cousin for the many visits, ice capps, drives and the love that was showered upon "Aunty Pat." Patsy was a loving and devoted Mother to Patti and Cindi- always being an integral part in our daily lives. She dearly loved her grandsons, Stewart and Adam and she was so proud of the men they had become. Our Mom and Nana is missed beyond words.
Patsy was one of a kind with a joie de vivre that paralled none. She loved Christmas, Hawaii, Willows' Beach, her car, dinner parties, flower arranging, camping, and desserts. Her chocolate chip cookies, her Christmas "Mice" shortbread and her party sandwiches are legendary. Her happiest moments were in the midst of her family and friends enjoying good food and the company of others. Patsy was the "Hostess with the Mostess." Our Mom and Dad were a camping fixture at both the Paradise Beach Resort in the 1960's and '70's and at Park Sands from the 1980's until the mid-2000's hosting fabulous gatherings with old friends and new. Patsy was a very fun, upbeat, positive person. She had a huge and generous heart and boundless energy. She loved to laugh and did so often; one of the many memories we will hold in our hearts forever. The home she shared with our Dad was warm, welcoming and always overflowed with great fun and laughter. Through the years it was a hub for gatherings, big and small. Her last Christmas with us was extra special; Patsy and grandson Adam once again hosted a magical day that topped the charts!
With her passing, an era has gone. As a native Victorian, Patsy was a wealth of knowledge about our city. Mom's memory about local places and people (past and present) was incredible and she loved to share her recollections right up to her passing. She was a treasure to us in so many ways. We feel truly blessed to have had her in our lives for so long.
Mom did not want any kind of formal service or a celebration of life. Instead, a small family gathering was held to honour her life.
"And when great souls die, after a period of peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed." Maya Angelou
