Suzette was born June 2, 1937 near Bordeaux, France and immigrated to Quebec in 1964 with her late husband Bernard Lio. Both Bernard & Suzette were excited about their prospects and adventures in a new country but unfortunately Bernard passed in 1969 in a tragic car accident.
In a move she never regretted, Suzette, with her two daughters Sandrine & France, moved to the beautiful west coast in 1973. Soon after arriving in Victoria she began working at BC Medical Services Plan and was there over 20 years.
In 1979 Suzette married Bob Matkin and they were together for 20 years before her handsome lumberjack passed away of cancer. Through time and distance Suzette has remained a part of the Matkin family.
Suzette later met Jim Millar and they have been together for over 20 years and she came to love Jim’s sons as if they were her own. Jim & Suzette were great companions and over the years Jim taught her many things she never experienced before, such as golf, curling and a new appreciation of all sports
An active member of the Juan De Fuca Seniors Center, Suzette went there probably 5 days a week to attend a class, be the photographer or socialize with friends. Sheloved to wear beautiful evening gowns, go out dancing, travel and cruise the world.
Suzette was a dedicated volunteer who selflessly gave her time to organizations such as The Mustard Seed & Santa’s Anonymous as well as major curling events. She loved being around people so it has to be said that her favourite volunteer activities were to get all dressed up in her vintage Victorian gowns to greet the cruise ships, and working as an usher with Victoria Harbour Cats. If the Royals or Harbour Cats were playing you could find Suzette in the stands boisterously cheering them on.
She will be loving remembered by her daughters Sandrine and France Lio (Dave), her long time companion Jim Millar, his sons her many her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her family in France, the Matkin family and numerous friends.
