Our dear cousin & friend Veronica (Ronnie) Butcher passed away August 21st, 2024 under the care of staff at Broadmead Lodge where she had resided since March 2023. In her final days, like so many, cancer took its toll on her. She was always a strong , independent, resilient individual and did not go easily to her final rest. Those who knew her well will know and admire her for her strength. Also for her wonderful sense of humour even sometimes a bit naughty. Ronnie was born on May 31, 1925 to Ronald and Amy Bennett in London, England. Ronnie lived a full life with some tragic events including the loss of her younger brother at age 8 and her daughter at age 21. In Ronnie’s words “the day before my 77th birthday I met my soul mate, Wing Commander Ronald Butcher and we were married soon after”. They both enjoyed travel and cruising which kept them happily entertained for a number of years. Ronnie was predeceased by Ron in 2018.
Ronnie was afflicted with macular degeneration and very poor hearing for a number of years so was unable to enjoy life to its fullest as she would have loved to do. She always had good stories to share about her time serving as a WAAF during WWII and she was very proud of that service her whole life.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Broadmead and to Ronnie’s friends Pat and Darlene who spent much time with her in her final days.
At Ronnie’s request a private cremation and internment has been arranged.
Donations in Veronica’s name may be made to BC Cancer Foundation.
