

Dad was born in Montreal. He was active in the Montreal music community from his teens until his retirement. He played bass trombone for the Grenadier Guards, Black Watch, Navy Band, Montreal Alouettes and numerous local bands.
Dad was stationed in Halifax in World War II as a decoder. After the war he returned to work for Northern Electric. Dad was past president of the Northern Electric Pioneers.
Upon his retirement, Dad and Mum drove across the country and settled in Victoria.
Dad’s life in Victoria was full, volunteering with Oak Bay Kiwanis, Salmon Enhancement program and Operations Trackshoes. He also enjoyed singing with The Village Squires and was a member of the Victoria Fishing Club.
Dad was predeceased by Mum, Lilian and his granddaughter Christina Caldwell. He will be greatly missed by his children, Elizabeth, Craig (Sylvia), Anne, and Reid (Céleste). Grandchildren David Simms (Jessica), Devon Carruthers (Michael), Andrew Shillingford, Aletheia Caldwell (James). Great Grandchildren Tavion Martin Caldwell and his Bum Bums, Lilian and Margaret Carruthers.
Dad spent the last two and a half years of his life living at Veteran’s Memorial Lodge where he received extraordinary care and friendship.
A private family celebration of Dad’s life has been held.
