Bill passed away after struggling with numerous health issues. He is survived by Leta, his beloved wife of 64 years, son Tony and daughter Sherri (Dean) Bicknell, granddaughters Brienna, Sophie and Mariah Bicknell, twin brother Bob (Barbara) Grimshaw, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Frank and Violet Grimshaw, sisters Marilyn Schneider and Judy Mackenzie.
Born in Victoria, Bill spent his life in and around the Victoria area, settling in rural Saanich with Leta, where they raised their two children.
A furnace burner mechanic and heating serviceman by trade, Bill had a love for life and enjoyed a variety of activities throughout his 90 years. As a young boy, he spent many summers in Brentwood Bay, where he later found his passion for fishing, for a time mooring his boat the “Stay Free” at Anglers Anchorage Marina. Bill also loved horses, showing them at various horse shows and later, taking up polo. He belonged to the Western Horseman’s Club in Saanichton, enjoying many good times at the legendary clubhouse.
Unfortunately, wear and tear on his shoulders precipitated him having to give up his horse-riding hobby. Hockey was also a large part of Bill’s life, whether watching it or playing – he played Old Timers Hockey well into his golden years.
A life well lived and enjoyed. Bill will be missed by all who know and love him. As requested, no formal service will be held. The family asks that Bill be remembered for his great sense of humour, who always loved to tell a good (fish) story.
