Canada has lost an honest, caring, brave, hardworking and brilliant man. William Henry Albert Willbond passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Billy was born in Ontario, the son of Bill Willbond and Monica McCaffery. He was the eldest of nine children and leaves behind sisters Mary and Connie and brothers Brian, Wally, Bobby, Pat, Barry, and Joe, all of Ontario. At the age of 17, Billy joined the Canadian Army and served for 20 years. He is known as "Canada's Soldier Poet'. He then enjoyed another 20 year career as a 911 dispatcher with the Central Saanich Police. In his retirement years he devoted himself to the charity ICROSS Canada and to Military Veterans Associations. Billy is the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Special service Medal with NATO Bar. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Lynne (Nimmo) and devoted daughters Sandra Bast (Trevor), Paula Littlejohn (Warren), Mary Mavretic, and Bridey Stirling (Mark). His pride and joy were his nine grandchildren: Desmond, Reggie, Shaelyn, William, Joel, Jared, Jack, Malachi, and Mary-Lynn. Appreciation to Dr. Cruz- Peira, Dr. Laura Ritonja and Dr. Koechling. Donations in his name can be made to the Compassionate Resource Warehouse. A public funeral service will be held on Sat. Nov. 1st at 2:00 P.M. at Centennial Park Baptist Church 7577 Wallace Dr.
He was one of Canada's true unsung heroes. We will remember him.
