Like Cliff I too shared memorable experiences with David at UBC during our three years at law school not so much at the school but rather during the seemingly wild experiences (letting off steam)that would  occur  after classes  . Because we practiced in different disciplines  we just seemed to lose track of each other. For years I have wondered what had become of him - Cliff recently found out.
To the family of David you have my very belated but sincere heartfelt sympathy. He was truly a genuine reliable personality

Dave was a close and  dear friend throughout our years in law school. Unfortunately, we drifted apart after I moved away and we lost touch with one another. I'm so sorry to hear of Dave's passing my condolences go out to Gale, his daughters and family.
We had a lot of fun and I will treasure those memories always.

David Owen was a man dedicated to anything he put his mind to. An uncanny ability to break down the smallest details and turn them into something great!!  Davids enthusiasm in investing,Witty humor, love for animals, interaction with others and poetry.... the list goes on. I’ve never met another that could recite poetry on a whim like David O.  I’ll leave him with this..  Robert frost-  Nothing gold can stay. 

My condolences to the family and friends of David O. RIP till we meet again brother!!!  

It's been quite a pleasure knowing David. We've shared many stories and conversations. It was an honor to have him as part of our investment community. It is with a very heavy heart that I bid farewell to a great friend and a wonderful person. He will remain in our thoughts and prayers forever. May you rest peacefully David. 

I got to know David thru a mutual investor acquaintance, in zero’ing in on a investment, an area David excelled in.  We spent a fair amount of time rationalizing the direction things to go and I found David to be exceptionally brilliant in his deduction and reasoning with next moves by all entities involved, and in many cases proved to be solid. Although I had not met David in person due to distance, I was saddened to hear of his passing, as he really was one of the greats, and he passage is a big hit to all of those that knew him. Rest In Peace David, you were really someone I held in high regard. My sincerest condolences to his family on his passing.

Litig8 as he was well known was also a "Nakker." A sort of accidental "brotherhood" of traders working together NAK. Over 3 years chatting daily, I would like to believe we were somehow part of David's life. He was essential with his investigations and facts. He was highly appreciate it by many. The descriptions by other Nakkers and friends here are accurate. Always enthusiastic, relentless, thirsty for knowledge, analyzing details and mentioning Dora occasionally.  I do have a dog we called "Bellanak" and it became the mascot for NAK. Dora in a way was a sister on line. David loved every time there was a posting with Bellanak. Last time I chatted with Litig8 we were now on a different stock and offer David to make Dora now the mascot for RECAF. He was so excited about it! I was working on making a graphic with a similar dog like Dora but Litig8 disappeared from the scope...? Then I found out about his passing.  Rest in peace fellow Nakker. I know you loved every trading day with all of us.  My condolences to his family and close friends. 

As many here have mentioned, I also met David through a group of investors online, who shared common goals and beliefs.  David was a pillar of this online community and in many ways, still is.  Not often in life you come across people willing to put in the extra work,   every    single    day, but that was David.  David  was the backbone of our group and served as a beacon of truth in many regards.  A kind, selfless and witty guy who will certainly not be forgotten.  My grandfather had a saying from his time in the military that I think is especially fitting here:  If We Never Meet Again, We Shall Be Friends Forever.

Dear Owen family, I knew David as part of the investment group too.  So many positive things have been said about him that I can’t add much, other than to say that I really liked him, that he  was always a fair, decent, smart, kind, respectful person. Not to mention I thought he was an excellent attorney, based on our legal discussions. I already greatly miss his wit and words, very much. God Bless David and his family.

There are people you come across in life that are unique, exceptional, and selfless.  David had all of those qualities.  Like others posting here I never had the pleasure to meet David in person.   His selfless work within our investment group provided in depth knowledge to all.  He did this for no other reason then to help others.  His life stories were both impressive and interesting.  He also had a very sophisticated sense of humor that I always appreciated.  May he rest in peace.  May his family know that he was loved and looked up to.  He is in a better place...God bless David!

Like many here have said, and I can't say it any better, David was as good a man as you would ever want to meet or become friends with. He could really break things down in layman terms and was very passionate about his research and sharing his knowledge. I was fortunate enough to at least see him and talk to him in a few Zoom meetings a few us attended. I got a kick watching Dora jump up and off his lap during the meetings, and David taking a drag off his cigarette like a boss, lol. We all hoped to meet someday soon, and it just sad David isn't here to see a stock he put his soul in start to take off on the day of his passing. There isn't one guy in our group that didn't appreciate David's time and humor. He will be missed, but not forgotten. We now have Dora as the avatar picture of our channel, and as you can see in the picture, we had a channel just for David news updates. God bless the Owen's family in your time of grief, but know the man was loved by many you never knew existed.

I first met David through a group of investors who shared a common vision and decency.  After time, we developed friendships that let to taking the group private amongst fewer members.

Over time, I got to know David as being "the guy" who made the difference in determining truth and substance between all things. He was an extremely knowledgeable man and always put more effort into something than anyone I know. He is truly missed, as a true friend and long term acquaintance.  I'm very happy to have known him and shall pay tribute to him wherever possible.

Rest in peace David and God bless. You were a wonderful person and always fantastic at what you were passionate for. See you on the other side good old friend.

I too knew David as a member of a trading group on the internet. Although we never met, he made a lasting impression on our group as you can see with other memories written here. He will be missed. The group may meet in the near future (20-30 of us) and I will raise a toast to David. RIP


I have had the pleasure of knowing David Owen online for the better part of four years now and I am immensely appreciative of the time we got to share together. It is a friendship that transcended the traditional boundaries of internet connections and one that grew stronger each and every day. 

David helped me overcome some of the more difficult challenges in my life such as a weighted social anxiety and mild depression. He had a unique ability to inspire curiosity through discovery, reigniting many of my passions. We got together often to sift through legal documentation for the investments that connected us. I never thought I would genuinely look forward to utilizing weekends to scrutinize legal documents, yet that was one of my favorite aspects of the journey.

David meant the world to us. I am a better man because of him, and our group is stronger thanks to his imprint. It pains me that we hadn't got the chance to meet in person, however comforts me in knowing his perspectives and memory live through myself and our investment group as a whole. 

To one of the best. Thank you for everything.

My condolences to the Owen family. I’ve known David for about 6 years via electronic communications.  I found David to be one of the brightest and classiest people I’ve never met. He never complained and always went above and beyond to help so many.  He had become a trusting friend even though we’ve never met. His love of poetry and Dora are well known to us that were in his Social Media circle. The one thing I will remember most about David was his vocabulary. He forced me to look up so many words in the dictionary that I’ve ever heard in my life. Lol   He will certainly be missed and thought of the rest of my life.  Thank you for being a part of our lives, God Bless and RIP David. 

I’ve “known” David for years now — he’s a core member of our virtual investor forum and had provided a tremendous amount of insightful, and often humorous, due diligence and commentary.  David was recognized for really digging into what was often incredibly complex material, boiling it down to its important elements and nuance, and getting back to the group with near real-time turnaround.  Most importantly, he made the conversation more fun (this stuff is often saltine cracker dry) and the banter contagious.  I’ll miss David.  We all will.  Till we meet again, my friend!

Hello, just wanted to say a short piece. I have known David, for roughly 5 years. Though I had not the pleasure of shaking his hand in person, he was involved in a couple investments with me. A few of us actually shared research and communicated on portfolio ideas and tips, through online forums. It was during this course of time we learned of his ferocious appetite for research and  data collection, which he spent many hours sifting through materials, and seemed to enjoy learning new information. It was also during this time, we learned more about each other, and become friends. I'm sure his prime time as a lawyer must of been something to see. He would share with us on several occasions through a message or zoom video, his best friend Dora. We spoke very highly of David, and deeply saddened to hear his passing, and the opportunity to not meet up, which we were all hoping to do within a year.
