Bill Simmonds, also known as Uncle Buck, was the kindest soul you’d ever meet, always full of cheer and acceptance with the warmest of hearts. He is quoted as saying “Family is your net worth” and lived his life surrounded by those he loved. He is predeceased by his father Alastair, mother Pauline and sister Joan. He is survived by his brother Robert, his nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends he met along the way.
He grew up in Ottawa and started working for Canada Post in his twenties. He was known for his advocacy towards the rebuilding of the heavy steel postal service trucks to a lighter aluminum frame to save the taxpayers money in postal travel costs. His love for vehicles was wide, from trucks to cars to motorcycles, he could tell you the precise make and models of all those passing by. He wore a poppy in his hat year-round and on every birthday his wish was for world peace.
He is remembered for his colourful stories, the sparkle in his eye, his mischievous grin and his infectious laugh. He lived his life never censored and always looking for a new person to strike up a conversation. He was such a unique character and those of us who had the privilege of meeting him are so very grateful that we did.
