It is with great sadness we announce the quiet passing of our mother, Yvonne Wheatley, at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. Yvonne is survived by her daughters: Brenda ( Reg ) and Tina ( Dave ) and granddaughters: Ali ( Brady ) and Juli, and great grandchild Patrick and cousins Eddie ( Kathy ) & Ron

( Sherry ) in Vancouver and David ( Linda Anne ), Michael, Mark and Audrey in Victoria.

Artistic to the end, Yvonne was born visually inspired. Even with complications of macular degeneration & glaucoma she was practicing her art until her last few weeks.

Always aware of current trends in art and especially music, Yvonne attended the Vancouver school of art for 4 years before she was married. She later graduated from UBC with a bachelor of education after raising her family in North Vancouver. Her teaching career spanned 30 years as a high school art teacher with the New Westminster Secondary School. She began part-time teaching painting in the parks in North and West Vancouver with children for the federation of Canadian artists, and night school at the Vancouver School Board with adults. While she was working in New West, she took a year of absence to pursue a masters in art which took her studies to Berkley University in California.

Her travels took her to places like Turkey, India, Thailand & Japan where she would go to study art for 4 months at a time. She will be remembered for her love of music and dancing.

Later in her eighties for an adventure she decided to move to Victoria from her lifelong home of Vancouver to experience something new. During her time, she held an exhibition of her art at Amica Douglas House, retirement community.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Kiwanis Pavilion in Victoria for their exceptional care of Yvonne in her last days of life. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Kiwanis Pavilion in Victoria.
