

Joy Burton was a woman of deep faith. She was married to Gordon Burton and together they had 5 children. 4 Girls and 1 Boy- Judy , John , Wendy , Karen, Mary.
Mom had 15 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren
Mom was born in Toronto Ontario . Mom studied Home Economics in school. She worked in Sears before starting her family. Mom was an avid reader and an excellent knitter.
She spent the majority of her married life in Burnaby and was very active in Pioneer Girls and was also a Girl Guide leader. Mom talks fondly of the many Girl Guide camps she lead in Chilliwack area.
Mom was also a Foster parent to help ends meet when Dad was away working. Many of the children were First Nation Students from B.C’s North.
When Mom turned 50yrs. Old she got her drivers license and returned to Douglas College in New Westminster. She worked in the Govt. as an F.A.W worker. When they decided to move to Mission and build a house Mom began working for Mission Funeral Home .
Dad always wanted a farm so they bought a 10 acre piece of land on Hartley Rd. In Mission. It had many Blueberry bushes they had cows, sheep and chickens. After Mom retired they moved to Oliver and enjoyed the warm summers and a huge garden . Dad grew the veggies and Mom grew beautiful Dinner Plate dahlias As health and age crept on them they moved closer to family in Agassiz . Dad passed away from Alzhiemer Disease on Mothers Day 2013. Mom decided in her wisdom that she needed to live closer to her eldest daughter Judy so she moved to Summergate Village in Sidney. She lived on her own with her Bichon Teddy for 3 years before moving into Rest Haven Lodge. She was the Best Mom she could be.
