It is with deep sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of Albert J. Bustos, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, the 8th of August 2026, nineteen days before his 80th birthday.
A loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Albert is survived by his wife of 62 years Janie Rosas Bustos; daughter Diana Bustos; sons Albert L. Bustos, David Bustos; six grandchildren Mylissa Weaver (Austin), Elizabeth Bustos, Victoriana Collazo (Rogelio), Lily McBride (Finnaveir), Emily Bustos, Hillary Bustos and three great grandchildren Athena Weaver, Magdalena Weaver, Jack Weaver and sister Dora Bustos Lara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto F. and Ceverina Gonzales Bustos, and brothers, Domingo Bustos and John Bustos.
Albert was a humble man whose greatest treasures were his unwavering faith in God and his devotion to his family. His relationship with the Lord was not merely something he spoke about, but something he lived each day, shaping his decisions, his patience, and the way he treated others. He loved his wife deeply and never hesitated to express his admiration for her, often recognizing the care and devotion she showed him throughout their 62 years of marriage. He took immense pride in his three children, celebrating their accomplishments and encouraging and advising them through every stage of life. As a provider, he worked with steady determination to ensure his family was cared for, willingly sacrificing for their well-being. He also urged his children to dream beyond their circumstances – to value education, explore the world, and embrace the fullness of the life God had placed before them, often reminding them, “It’s easy to be a big fish in a small pond”, encouraging them not to remain within the familiar, but to grow, stretch, and experience the wider world. Alongside his devotion to family, he was known for his warm, easy humor, which could lighten even the heaviest moments. He had a gift for finding light where others saw difficulty. In times of struggle, he steadied his family with calm reassurance and perspective, often reminding his children that “all things will come to pass”, a gentle reminder that hardship is temporary and that faith and perseverance endure. He believed deeply that time was a gift and that each person was responsible for how it was used. These convictions were not simply words of guidance, but the rhythm of his life – reflected in his optimism, resilience, and quiet trust in God’s plan. He also found peace in life’s simple pleasures: a bowl of ice cream, fresh bread or a warm roll, a classic cowboy movie, the steady voice of CNN, the joy of travel, and the stillness of a country landscape – a view he often said he hoped for in retirement, simply “a beautiful view” to sit with, reflect upon, and enjoy in quiet gratitude. Above all, he will be known for his deep love for his family, his
humility, his steadfast faith, and his unwavering integrity. He did not merely speak of his values – he lived them in a way that others could see and follow. He provided not only for his family’s material needs, but also for their spiritual foundation, leaving them a lasting example of love, strength, and devotion. He leaves behind a family who will carry forward his faith, his wisdom, his humor, and the quiet strength of his presence for the rest of their lives. In moments of gathering and reflection, like this one, he would often call his oldest to brief her and give her instructions to “call the troops home”, meaning it was time to reach out and tell family members near and far to gather, to come home. This time, those words take on a slightly different meaning as we gather to celebrate HIS going home to be with the Lord.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Sunday the 16th of August 2026 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at seven o’clock.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at nine o’clock in the morning on Monday the 17th of August at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
The committal is to follow, via an escorted cortege, to Resurrection Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers will be David Bustos, George Lara, Rogelio Collazo, Austin Weaver, Henry Gonzales, and John Henry Gonzales.
