

Alton grew up in Yorktown and moved to Cuero where he played football for the Gobblers in 1936-37. His family moved to Victoria and he graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1938. He was married to Mary Gold ‘Goldie’ Sandhop for 61 years until her death in 2003. Alton proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Army Air Forces as a Celestial Navigation Instructor in Tucson, Arizona. He retired from retail sales after 53 years with JC Penney and Bealls Department Stores. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Alton is survived by his daughter, Virginia Berger and husband Godfred Berger, Jr. of Victoria. granddaughters, Cynthia Berger Jordan and husband Kelly of Victoria and Jennifer Berger Wilson and husband Wade of Seguin, great grandchildren, Hannah Camille Jordan of Victoria, Hadlee Ray Wilson, Hays Middlebrook Wilson, and Harper Leigh Wilson all of Seguin. brother, Harlan Schroeter and wife Verline of Victoria. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Ray Schroeter, brother, Norris Schroeter and sisters-n-law, Dorothy Speakerman Schroeter and Royce Lingo Schroeter.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm Monday at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be 10 am Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Barney Matocha, Don Angerstien, and Kara Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full Military honors under the direction of The Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers are nephews, David Schroeter, Glenn Schroeter, Richard Appelt, Von Tuch and great nieces, Amy Appelt Tiemann and Taylor Schroeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 N DeLeon Street, Victoria, Texas 77901.
