

Alvina Hilscher Shapiro , 99 of Victoria passed away on August 31, 20 14. She was born on September 14, 1914 in High Hill Texas to the late Josef Hilscher and Mary Goedrich Hilscher. She was retired after working for many years as a bookkeeper. On January 9, 1938, Alvina married the love of her life, David Shapiro, they were married 25 years. Alvina had a beautiful gentle spirit and the most beautiful smile. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work and time spent with her family and friends. She loved volunteering at her parish, Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, and in her later years thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the visits from members of the parish who stopped in to check on her, or bring communion to her. She was member of and volunteered for: The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, American Legion, the Eastern Star and The DeTar Volunteers– in which she was an active volunteer until her early 90’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister; Hilda C. Vanelli, and four brothers, Emil, Alfred, Charles and Hubert Hilscher.
She is survived by a step great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
Pallbearers are Allen Vanelli, Danny Vanelli, (nephews) Lloyd Goedrich (cousin)Michael Vanelli (great nephew) Ryan Renfrow (great-great nephew)
Visitation will be from 6-8 at Colonial Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 2. Rosary will be at 1:15 pm Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral and the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Gary Janak will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery.
