Andra “Andy” Jones Grigar, 78, of Victoria, passed away on 2 August 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. Andy was born in Stamford, Texas to Ted and Mary Jones on 14 December 1944. She graduated from Victoria High School, where she first met Louis, who would eventually become her partner in life.
While she worked in several careers, the one she enjoyed the most was Facility Security Officer for Tracor, where she worked for many years before retiring.
She enjoyed reading, playing cribbage (or any card or domino game), Tincup, Colorado (especially watching the hummingbirds), and traveling with Louis. In her later years, she continued to enjoy her family, and pets, watching tennis and “Law and Order SVU”, and making new friends.
Andy was selfless when it came to taking care of people. Not only did she love and care for her own five children, she opened up her home to many teenagers, giving them a safe place to land. She loved every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She continued to do selfless acts, even as her last days were near, sharing ice cream and coke with her caregivers and giving them advice or just an ear to listen. She was a young person in a worn-out body, but she did not let that keep her down, she enjoyed her life until it was time for her to let go and be reunited with those she loved who passed before her.
Andy is preceded in death by her husband and partner in life, Louis, father Ted, mother Mary, and sister Patt.
Andy is survived by her brother, Steve Jones (Cathy), children, Mike Hellyer (Jennifer), Bryan Hellyer (Christy), Jamie Grigar, Tesa Harding (Stacy), and Julie Reece (Bobby).
Grandchildren: Angela Kelly, Ian Grigar (Jill), Brien Morse, Alex Morse, MJ Hellyer, Nicholas Hellyer, Cory Reece, Carson Reece, Ali Redgate (Monty), Spencer Hellyer (Grace), Jacob Hellyer, Lance Graham, Brayton Graham.
Great Grandchildren: Cayden Alonzo, Audrey Alonzo, Braden Grigar, Madelyn Grigar, Dexter Redgate, Chandler Redgate, River Redgate.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially her lifelong friends, “The Girls”.
On 24 August 2023 at 11:00 a.m., there will be a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Victoria, Texas, with a celebration of life immediately following at Rosewood Funeral Home. “Due to the extreme heat, Andy would want everyone to dress comfortably.”
Andy was a fierce supporter of the military and very proud that her father and sons served. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, which she continued to support until the end of her life. She was also a volunteer with hospice and believed that what they do makes a difference; therefore, donations to a hospice of your choosing may be made as well.
The family of Andy wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Gentiva Hospice and the caregivers at The June Assisted Living facility, especially those who cared for her like family from the day they met her until she took her final breath.
