Andrea “Ann” Vela Hernandez, 95, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 26, 1931, in Danevang, Texas, to the late Alfonso and Petra Vela and was lovingly raised by Apolonio Espinoza.
Andrea lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, the late Joe Hernandez, and a loving mother whose greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her children Joe Hernandez Jr., David Hernandez, and Rosemary Hernandez; brothers, Fred Vela, Roger Vela, and Apolonio Espinoza Jr.; and sisters, Lupe Rendon, Aurora Espinoza, Mabel Cabrera, Ramona Longoria, and Olivia Vela.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Lorenzo Longoria, and daughter-in-law Terri Hernandez. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren that knew her as Momo Bubblegum, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Estella Rubio, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Andrea had a servant’s heart and found great joy in caring for others. She loved cooking for her family and ensuring that no one left her home hungry. Her faith inspired her, with the help of her daughter to establish Paid in Full clothing ministry, that served members of the community, and she dedicated her free time volunteering at City Harvests' food pantry. Through her kindness, generosity, and prayers, she touched the lives of everyone she met.
Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to live on through the generations she so dearly loved.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 1pm - 2pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in the Regency Chapel, with funeral services beginning at 2pm and burial to immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Medrano, Daniel Medrano, Erick Ramirez, Lorenzo Longoria Jr., Rick Aaron Longoria, David Longoria and Joe Hernandez.
