Augusta Genevieve Maurer Pittman was born September 19, 1922 in Victoria, Texas to Alfred & Annie Staff Maurer. She was the last of 6 children. Margaret Tipton, Polly Koehl & Jacob Maurer were the siblings she grew up with having lost brothers Alfonse & Vincent in their childhood. Her mother was the eldest of 18 children, so Gussie was blessed with a large extended family. She had many good times with her cousins, especially Snookie Fox & Francis Staff. Gussie attended Nazareth Academy, Mitchell School, and she graduated from Patti Welder High School. While in high school Gussie played the marching bells/glockenspiel in the band. She sang in choir in both high school & Our Lady of Lourdes Church choir. Her brother Jake had a good friend he often went out with that would ask about Jake's little sister. Although Jake didn't want to have his little sister along on a Saturday night, he eventually introduced his friend, G.C. Pittman, to Gussie. Gussie & G.C. dated for some time until G.C. proposed marriage. She wasn't quite ready. G.C. joined the US Army shortly after the start of World War II and was stationed in California at Camp Beale. They exchanged letters & the occasional phone call. Before too long G.C. proposed again & Gussie got on a train to California. At 6:00AM mass on Christmas morning 1942 they were married. They had a little apartment off base until G.C. shipped out to Hawaii & eventually Okinawa. Gussie went home and worked at the Bakery and Victoria Bank & Trust as a teller until the end of the war. After G.C. came home, David joined the family and a little later Sharon, and finally Patty. Although being a mom and banker’s wife kept Gussie very busy she was active in several clubs & organizations: Our Lady of Lourdes & Victory Altar Societies, O.L.V. P.T.C., St. Joseph High School Mothers & Fathers Club, Bon Aire Garden Club, Ladies of the Knights of St. Gregory, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, and of course she was a founding member of “The Sewing Club,” just to name a few. Gussie & G.C. enjoyed traveling together but spending time with their family was their favorite pastime. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband G.C. Pittman & granddaughter Tara Nicole Pittman. She is survived by her children & their spouses; David & Barbara Pittman of Dallas, Sharon & Randy Pitts of Lakeway, & Patty & Russell Weaver of Victoria. Grandchildren; Sean Pittman, Kelley Raich, Chris (Mary) Bryan, Will (Sara) Bryan, Brent (Maegen) Pitts, Harper Pitts, Emily, Leann & Gabriel Weaver. Great grandchildren; Victoria & Madison Pittman, Levi & Leighton Raich, River & Holden Bryan, & Brooks, Braxton & Braegan Pitts.
