I really miss this very fun friend. I miss her dropping in for hot tea or a slice of pie. I miss our birthday celebrations and the ones we made up to have a celebration. And when she began to have care givers, I miss visiting with them at our home and the shop. Her family was important to her and they remain in my special thoughts. She was always looking to spread the word of God and teach people about Jesus. We worked together on many small projects we both enjoyed. 

Time goes by so fast.  I will always remember you.  I miss you Barbara.

Here’s a memory that now seems relevant, though at the time seemed a bit peculiar. It must have been no later than late Spring  of this year. It wasn’t unusual for Mrs Welder to want to take an afternoon drive, sometimes with the destination to be determined. We found ourselves heading toward downtown, which wasn’t unusual. However, on this day Mrs Welder directed me to drive around many of the streets of downtown, past the block where her husband’s office was, past several businesses that were also relevant to her as well. We also made the block around the square and the courthouse several times. She also directed me to drive by the sheriff’s office. We also wound our way to the place where her husband’s grave was, and she stated she would be there someday. A year before we had taken the time to drive around in the historic home area west of downtown, where many homes of prominent people, including her husband’s family had resided. She was a very thoughtful person and I have a feeling that, in her final days especially, “still waters run deep”.

Mrs. Welder was a woman who loved getting out of the house to visit friends and especially loved to shop at Days Gone Bye in Victoria. She was an avid churchgoer and had many dear friends. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. She dearly loved her brothers and their wives and families. The care and attention her daughter gave her toward the end was exemplary. The young family of her grandson and his wife and four sweet children was clearly a great joy to her. She led a very full and rewarding life.

Animals were her friends. She came with love and treats;  often u would find her petting the mascot at our shop, Sandy. 

Barbara had energy to attend things, first came church, singings and gatherings; and often things we were doing the last 18 yrs at Days Gone Bye.in Aransas Pass or the later in Victoria. 
We sponsored and helped with many benefits and she liked coming along to our luncheon table and seeing the show. She liked donating  to community projects thru purchasing silent  auction items  or plants they needed to sell that decorated the stage at Springwood or the Community Center. 
She would say tell me where you’ll are going next and we’d often swing by for her. I called her the “lady in blue.” She really was a beautiful lady. 
We will not be able to come down for her planned services due to timing, but our thoughts and prayers will be with the family she loved. Pat

Barbara,
When you see Mildred, please give her a hug for me.  Oh, and thanks again for all of the haircuts.

This picture is one taken at Polishing the Pulpit in Sevierville Tennessee. She loved the thousands who came to sing acapella  and hearing preachers speak the “Word” from all over the USA. 
She  shared her blessings and was generous in supporting the gospel of Jesus Christ.  She never missed the church doors being open as long as she could. 
Barbara was a kind humble human being. My wife and I called her a true friend and follower of Jesus. 





Barb was a loving personal friend & Christian sister who made herself a regular welcomed visitor to our home. She always  thought of others. She loved the Lord & her family dearly. 

Over the years she showed herself to be a true friend. In Covid she called every day from June -July 26, ‘20 just to see how Will & I were. 
After she had Senior Helpers, she continued to come to the red house front porch to  rock and have hot tea; ice cream & cake. Her caregivers became our  friends. 
Fond memories include  her work at Blyth Road Church of Christ where she attended in recent years; she  helped many a missionary from prison ministry to overseas. She was always personally helping me hands on with things being made & packed for Jamaica missionary work, Bible class, and any activity needed. She attended the member activities, and lectures at Polishing the Pulpit in Tenn with us several years where we celebrated her birthday. 
For the last 14 years she was a smiling face coming  in regularly to Days  Gone Bye to visit.  Shoppers remember her laughing with her  feet in a foot massage machine taking a turn, or helping someone to try chocolate or bath product trials at a wet sink.  She loved the complimentary Girl Scout Cookies the shop served & she personally participated in every DGB event raising funds to help at Mid Coast or the Cara Ann Hobbs Foundation, helping individuals with terminal brain illnesses with MD Anderson. 

When we came to Victoria in 1997  as a new preacher and wife at Blyth, she attended at Central  Church. She visited with us after our church services at Blyth Road at Luby’s Cafeteria, at area church singings & church activities. Later about 2002-2003 she called to say her spouse was very ill & could we visit. 

Over time we included her in our family Thanksgivings, & she attended her families too. We had a fun time planning our birthdays cake if the Lord blessed us with another year. 

This kind soul is missed by many.
