Betty Alice Loveland Wood, 90, passed away February 16, 2014. Betty was born April 5, 1923 in Bangor, MI, to the late Earl John and Zora Mae Hogmire Loveland. Betty attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She felt a strong sense of duty to serve her country during the early years of WW II. She left Michigan for Washington D.C. and took a job with the FBI. She spoke fondly of her time spent in Washington. This is also where she met Jack, the love of her life. They were married on September 13th 1947. They moved to Texas to start a family. Betty was a member and an elder of Grace Presbyterian Church, Decora Study Club and Citizen’s Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered for 20 years. But most of all her greatest joy came from being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Betty is survived by her 5 sons; Steve (Charlene) Wood of Victoria, TX, Jack (Connie) Wood of Victoria, TX, David (Jeni) Wood of Midland, TX, Greg (Anne) of Katy, TX and Rick (Allison) Wood of Boerne, TX; grandchildren, Stephanie Kamin (fiance’ Matthew Albrecht), Michael (Clara) Wood, Conner Wood, Chad Wood, Rachel Wood, Preston Wood, Caroline Wood, Patrick Wood, Catherine Wood, Maddie Rose Wood; great grandchildren; Nina Wood, Baron Kamin and Kelly Wood.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gilbert Wood; grandson, Jack Gilbert “Chip” Wood III and sisters, Rachael Sunday and Marjorie Church.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 1-2 PM with a funeral service to follow at 2 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church in Victoria, TX. Rev. Dan Fultz will be officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Betty’s grandsons and nephews, Scott Sunday and Tom Church. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and grandson, Chip Wood (in memory).
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of South Texas or Grace Presbyterian Church.
