Calvin Ray Downs

Calvin Ray Downs, 74, of Victoria passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014. He was born October 15, 1940, in Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas, to the late Lillie Melzora Collins Downs and Perry Francis Downs. He began his school years in Cherokee County and graduated from Burnet High School in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960 and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. Calvin then received training in a variety of fields before hiring on at Alcoa in 1964. He retired as a Journeyman Instrument Mechanic and began work at Union Carbide in 1978. He retired from Dow (Union Carbide) after 25 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Botard Downs of Victoria; daughter, Dawn Marti and husband, Ric, of Victoria; sons, Ben Downs and wife, Lisa, of Boerne and Michael Downs and wife, Debbie of Lone Star; sisters, Betty Sue Sides Flowers of Conroe and Ettie Marilla Downs of Victoria; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert Columbus Downs, Mary Marilla McCurry Downs, William Washington Collins and Ettie Lee Brent Collins; sister, Mildred Anita Sides; and brother, Francis Adele Downs.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 20th, 2014, at 2:00 pm at LifePointe Fellowship, Rev. Les Cole officiating.
