Cashell “Skip” Donahoe Jr. passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026. He was born in Hopewell, Virginia on November 13, 1940 to the late Cashell and Myrtle Carpenter Donahoe. He was the oldest of 3 boys. He grew up in Virginia and graduated from Hermitage High School in 1959 as Student Body President. Skip attended Princeton where he played baseball for 2 years before deciding to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Germany. When he returned from Germany, he completed his college work at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering in 1966.
At BYU, Cashell met Candace, and they married in August of 1966. Shortly after, they moved to Charlottesville, VA to attend The University of Virginia Medical School. He completed medical school in 1970, and then enlisted in the Air Force and served for 2 years in Albuquerque, NM. After being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain, Skip, Candace and their young family moved to Memphis, TN to complete his residency training in Ear, Nose, and Throat medicine at University of Tennessee Medical School. It was there that he met William Sage. They completed residency and chose to move to Victoria, TX together to start their practice in 1977. They practiced together (with the addition of Dr. Bickford) until 2010.
After retirement, Skip and his wife served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Japan from 2011-2012 and Michigan from 2015-2017. They loved to travel and visited many states and countries in Europe and Asia. Skip loved to fish whether it was on the lake, in the bay, or in a mountain stream. He taught most of his grandchildren to fish. Skip had a talent for music and would play the piano or guitar for his family and church often.
Cashell and Candace are parents to 7 children and 22 grandchildren. While busy with his practice, he still made time to attend gymnastic meets and dance competitions and take his kids hunting and fishing. He had a way of making moments count and making sure each of his children and grandchildren felt loved. He loved practicing medicine and loved serving the Lord, his community, and his family.
While in Victoria, Cashell served the community in various ways. He served as Bishop of his church congregation for many years. Cashell served as president of the Victoria High School PTO. He organized most of the doctors in town into a conglomerate to negotiate with big insurance companies for fair pay.
Cashell is survived by his wife, Candace; his children Heather Campbell (Robert), Meghan Monney (Gamble), Meredith Donahoe, Erin McClelland (Shawn), Tracy Nicolaysen (Christoffer), Cashell Donahoe (Callie), Allison McKinlay (Brennan), his 22 grandchildren; his brother, David Donahoe (Sherry) and sister-in-law Elsie Donahoe. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cashell and Myrtle, and his brother John.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening on Friday the 7th of August at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service is to be conducted at 11:30 am in the morning on Saturday the 8th of August 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Brian Parks presiding.
The committal is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
