Catarino was born in General Terán Nuevo León, Mexico on December 21, 1946. He married the love of his life, Maria Martha Salazar Garza on December 29, 1968.
Catarino set his eyes on big dreams of bringing himself and his wife to the United States of America to start their family and he did just that! He desired a better way of life for his family and was a great example of what it looked like to work hard to make his dreams come true.
Cat, as so many knew him, was an extremely talented and hard working automobile painter for most of his adult life. He took pride in providing for his family and his greatest accomplishments were his three daughters. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather as well as having great love for his extended family.
Cat had the greatest sense of humor, always joking and laughing and making everyone around him laugh. He knew no stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed Sunday barbecues and sharing a dance with his wife and girls while he grilled. He loved watching baseball, boxing, playing pool, and a good hand of dominos. The man could tell you what dominos were still out and who was holding what dominos without looking. He won trophy after trophy in his pool leagues in his youth.
Cat may not have had sons of his own but that didn’t stop him from teaching his girls how to sand down a car to prep it for paint. He had the honor and privilege of working alongside his oldest grandson, Gabriel, as his helper at Lenard Kovar Ford in Victoria. At times it seemed like he was just impossible to please, but Gabriel soon realized that greatness took discipline. The greatest lesson he leaves behind was how to love well. You could feel his love with the way he looked at his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandson.
So many life lessons and memories that will be passed down from generation to generation…
The legend has departed this earth and has ascended into heaven where we will be reunited with him one day.
Catarino was proceeded in death by his father, Agustin Salazar; his mother, Maria Guadalupe Salazar Pacheco; his daughter, Martha Niria Salazar; his brothers, Alfredo (Ernestina), Felipe, Alfonso, Agustin; his sister, Maria L. Hernandez; and numerous nephews
Catarino is survived by his wife, Maria Martha Salazar; daughters, Erika Walton (Clay), Karina Vargas (Jonathan); his grandsons, Gabriel Gonzales (Vanessa), Brandon Perez; granddaughters, Adrianna Walton, Alia Perez, Elena Perez; great grandson, Nikolai Gonzales; sisters, Carlota Rodriguez, Sara Salazar
The visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday October 6, 2026, with rosary to follow at Rosewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on October 7, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Blackburn Officiating
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Gonzales, Brandon Perez, Clay Walton, Jonathan Vargas, Frank Salazar and Felipe Salazar
Honorary Pallbearers will be his loving granddaughters, Adrianna Walton, Alia Perez, Elena Perez and great grandson Nikolai Gonzales
