

Charles W. Matthews, 81, of Victoria, is now walking the streets of Heaven, as of Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. He was born April 11, 1931, in Yoakum, TX, to the late Bernard Matthews and Alberta Norwood Matthews. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Marines where he was a drill instructor and a staff sergeant. He retired from Union Carbide after 33 years as an operator. He was involved in several ministries including: Bill Glass Prison Ministry, the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship, and the Diversity University Bible Study.
Survivors: wife, Marcine Matthews; daughters, Terri Salles and Cindy Haeber; step daughters, Jacquie (Buddy) Barnett and Kay Jones; sister, Katherine Horst of Tacoma, Washington; 5 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: Parents and wife, Mary Francis Matthews.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. tonight at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Thad Parker officiating. The Rev. Michael Smith will officiate the graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, and full military honors will be provided under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers: James Mike, Rick Huddleston, Eric Jones, Colton Speed, Joseph Barnett, and Brad Castillo.
