Chet was born in Gorman, Texas to Chester William Norton and Mildred Elizabeth Robison on September 13, 1938. He was raised in De Leon, Texas where he attended De Leon ISD. He married Montalu Norton on December 31, 1997 in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Tarrant County Junior College with his associate’s degree in business, he then went on to get his bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Wesleyan University. Chet worked as a beloved teacher and coach for 17 years. He served many schools throughout his career, retiring from Fort Worth ISD in 2011. Chet served in the Texas Army National Guard Reserves as a cannoneer for 3 years (1955-1958). Chet highly cherished soccer and bull riding thoughout his life. He has multiple certifications as a soccer coach through the United States Soccer Federation and the North Texas State Soccer Association. Chet received District Coach of the Year in 1996. He rode many bulls and broncs in the prime of his life, but the bull Widow Maker was his all-time favorite.
Chester is preceded in death by Chester William Norton (father) and Mildred Elizabeth Robison (mother). Chester is survived by his sweetheart, Montalu Norton; his son, Bill and wife Tina; daughter, Debbie and husband, Weldon; son, Joe and wife, Marley; daughter Patricia; his brother, Chandois and wife, Ludwicka; grandchildren, Jason, James, Jenny Marie, Will, Railyn, Natalie, Brighton, Gideon, Ziden; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Tristen, Jairon and Kenna.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2020 from 10-11 AM at First Baptist Church Inez. Funeral services will follow visitation at First Baptist Church Inez. Graveside services will take place on Saturday, August 29 starting at 11 am at the De Leon Cemetery in De Leon, Texas.
