Dalton Ray Metting, 92, of Victoria, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Dalton was born in Yorktown, Texas to Werner E. Metting and Elfrieda Henze Metting on January 5, 1934. He married Ella Jane “Janie” Schroller on January 13, 1957 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy, Texas. Dalton worked as a CPL lineman before advancing to CPL District Manager – Yorktown to eventual CPL Area Manager for DeWitt & Karnes County.
In addition to his parents, Werner and Elfrieda Metting, Dalton is preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Metting and wife, Janie Metting.
Dalton is survived by his sister, Joanie Wendel; son, Keith Metting and wife, Jena, daughter; Jeri Alvarez and husband, Sammy; grandchildren Taylor Nicole Metting and wife Sharon Stanton Metting, Samantha Jordan Alvarez, and Danielle Alvarez Garcia and husband Jacob; step-grandchildren, Kira Van Dyke and Spencer Hedding, and great-granddaughter; Elaine Brooke Garcia.
Before Dalton was very involved in the community, he was a proud soldier of the United States Army. He was a member of the Yorktown Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce; even becoming Citizen of the Year. He was a member of Gruenau Turn & Scheutzen Verein Club where he assisted with the annual May & October sausage feasts. He was a member of the Industrial Foundation that brought Tex-Tan to Yorktown and was active committee member for Yorktown’s Western Days.
He was President of First English Lutheran Church and was devout in his biblical studies and prayers. He served as a DeTar Hospital volunteer for over 20 years. He loved to BBQ, eat Blue Bell ice cream and play golf, in no particular order. By far, he was an avid sports fan, even coaching little league, and especially THE University of Texas Longhorns; that his children and grandchildren continue to be diehard fans. Above all, he loved his family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10am-11am, followed by Funeral Service at 11am, all at First English Lutheran Church. Rev. Chip Reynolds officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Frels, Justo Bryand Jr., Gregg Metting and Al Reinhardt.
