

Dalton B. Spies, 84, passed away June 4, 2011. He was born in Victoria January 20, 1927, to the late Bernhard R. and Lydia Koch Spies. Mr. Spies was employed by Tennessee Gas Transmission for ten years and Central Power and Light for thirty-one years where he retired in 1988. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Spies was raised in the Dernal Community. He attended grade school at Crescent Valley, junior and senior years at Patti Welder High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing basic training he was assigned to the amphibious troop transport ship the U.S.S. Dane P.A. 238 at Portland, Oregon. He served in the Pacific, Hawaii, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Truk, Peleliu, Guam and Okinawa. He was discharged in August 1946 and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4146. He enjoyed working in his garden and work shop restoring and refinishing antique furniture.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra L. Clark and husband, Gary; granddaughter, Courtney Clark, grandson, Kevin Clark; sister, Irene Martin; brother, Harvey Spies and wife, Shirley; two nieces, Lisa Drapela and husband, Russell, and Elane Spies; three nephews, Dwight Martin, Kenneth Martin and wife, Silvia, and David Martin.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalene (Maggie) Spies, his son, Darwin Spies and granddaughter, Amber Clark.
Visitation for Mr. Spies will be held Tuesday June 7, 2011, from 6 to 8 PM from the Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 10 AM from the Trinity Lutheran Church with Don Angerstein officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Clark, Dwight Martin, Henry Hosek, III, Logan Sauer, Doyle Koenig and Robert Obsta.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all members of Trinity Lutheran Church, cousins and friends.
