

Daniel “Dwain” Barrett, 86 of Schulenburg, formerly of Victoria passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Dwain was born on March 26, 1928 in Rusk County, TX to the late Egbert and Ada Bell Barrett. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 32 years of service and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Dwain was married to Mamie “Claudine” Allen on October 26, 1947 and to their union, they were blessed with a daughter, Diane. Claudine preceded him in death on March 30, 2007. Dwain was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed being the chef of the family and anyone who visited the Barrett home never left empty handed due to his gardening expertise. When time allowed, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and reminiscing. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his country, family, friends and music. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Dwain was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers, Porter “Punkin” Barrett, Joel Barrett; sister, Quida Barrett Cook and son-in-law, Scooter Young.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Diane Smith and husband, Joe of Montgomery; brother, Carl Wilford Barrett of Nacogdoches; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, L. G. and Billie Joy Allen of Timpson; R. S. and Sandra Allen of Garrison; Evelyn McLeroy of Timpson and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 1 – 2 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with funeral services to follow at 2 PM with Mr. Charles Plackar and Rev. Ben Sheeran officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Kemp, Darrell Swoboda, Darrell Morrow, Dr. Fred Lykes, Sr. , Ricky Huegele, David Petty.
