Daniel E. Hirsch, 89 of Victoria passed away with his family by his side on Monday, January 30, 2017. He was born on August 14, 1927 in Shiner, Texas to Edward and Margaret Kalovodia Hirsch. Daniel graduated from Shiner High School and served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II and the Army during the Korean War being part of the 40th Infantry Division. He worked for Union Carbide for 38 years and was a chemical operator, he also owned Handy Dandy Liquor Store and the Trailerland of Victoria. After retiring, he and his wife worked at three National Parks over a 13 year span to include Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountain National Park.
On May 23, 1953 Daniel married the love of his life Virginia Nolen Hirsch and together they were active members of Holy Family Catholic Church.
His greatest love was his Catholic faith, his beloved family and his wife of 63 years, Virginia Hirsch, of Victoria; daughters, Sandra Simon of Bastrop, Jackie Hungerford of Canyon Lake, Nancy Prichard (Steve) of Cameron, Teresa Diefenbach (Bill) of Victoria, Paula Wingate (Dale) of Horseshoe Bay; sons, Brian Hirsch, Greg Hirsch (Gaby) of San Antonio; eleven grandchildren, Matthew Simon, Dustin Hungerford, Megan Newton (Jerry), Luke Prichard (Hanna), Nicole Bullard (Larz), Denver Diefenbach, Hanna Diefenbach, Daniela Hirsch, James Hirsch, Haley Wingate and Nola Wingate; three great grandchildren, Logan Prichard, Adeliene Bullard, Lydia Bullard, and one on the way.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Helt, Beatrice Brown; son-in-law, Michael Simon and great grandchild, Owen Patrick Bullard.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating. Entombment with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will be at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Hungerford, Luke Prichard, Denver Diefenbach, James Hirsch, Jerry Newton and Larz Bullard.
Honorary pallbearers are Steve Prichard, Bill Diefenbach, Dale Wingate, Matthew Simon and Ray Barton.
