Don A. Ballard, age 82, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010. He was born July 18, 1927 in Olney, Texas to the late Charles M. and Zella Webb Ballard. He worked for L.T. Burns Estate of Wichita Falls until he took an early retirement. After retiring, he co-owned and operated B. D. Production Co. Inc. for ten years. He was a member of Baptist Temple Church, and enjoyed using his artistic talents to prepare bulletin boards in the Church library. He served in the United States Air Force during the end of WWII, and was stationed in Guam. While in the Air Force, he worked as a finance clerk, and would often say “I joined the Air Force and learned to fly a typewriter”. Don enjoyed flying remote controlled airplanes with his friends and grandchildren. He loved his family dearly, enjoyed spending time with them, and was a father-figure to his grandchildren. He and his wife, Joyce, would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in July. He was very special to his family, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Joyce E. Ballard; daughters, Linda Powell and husband Phil of Inez, and Cindy Sewell and husband Jack of South Fork, Colorado; sisters, Peggy Standifer and husband Gene of Hurst, Texas, and Pat Berry and husband Gayle of Murphy, Texas; four grandchildren: Joey Ganem and wife Alberta of College Station, Greg Ganem and wife Marisa of Bryan, Melissa James and husband Reuben of Buda, and Stacy Chamrad of Dallas; three great grandchildren: Cody Ganem, Ian Ganem, and Audrey Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lena Fagin, Helen Rhea Phillips, and Burnice Ballard; and brothers, Buford Ballard, C. M. Ballard Jr., Mack Ballard, Wayne Ballard, and James C. Ballard.
Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, June 14, 2010 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J. V. Helms officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Ganem, Greg Ganem, Reuben James, Phil Powell, Jack Sewell, and Sonny Hebert. Honorary pallbearer is Gus Trojcak.
