

Donald Floyd “Don” Fox died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at his home in Austin, Texas. He was 83 years young. Don was born on July 1, 1930, and was a native Victorian. His father was Floyd Fox of Victoria, Texas and his mother, Earsie Bennett Fox of Hallettsville, Texas both preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Patti Welder High School in 1949. He married the love of his life, Betty Lou Monte of Baton Rouge, Louisiana on September 1, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas. They were happily married for 42 years before her death in December of 1992. He served in the Texas National Guard in Victoria with Company E-386th Armored Engineers, as a Master Sargent.
Don was employed with the City of Victoria for 32 years and retired in December of 1989. He served the city as the Director of Building Inspections – Inspections Department. He was responsible for the enforcement of the various building codes for the City of Victoria. He served as a representative of the City of Victoria and was elected by his peers to the Board of Directors of the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) where he served as President for a two year term. He also served as President of the Building Officials Association of Texas
(B.O.A.T.) and as Director of the Texas Municipal League.
Don was an avid and very successful fisherman along with his best partner, Betty. The bay waters around Port O’Connor, Texas have a lot less fish as a result of their fun times.
Even though Don took great pride in being a native Victorian he thoroughly enjoyed his new found life in Austin, Texas. Don made many new friends during the last three years of his life. While at his home, Silverado Senior Living – Onion Creek he participated in dancing, cooking, art classes, woodworking, wine tastings, the theatre and served as Community Greeter. The family would like to thank the employees of Silverado for all of their love and care.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna L. Fox of Buda, Texas, and Brenda Kay Taylor and son-in-law, Jeff G. Taylor of McKinney, Texas; his grandson, Jeffrey P. Taylor of Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapel located at 3304 Mockingbird Lane in Victoria. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Taylor, Jeffrey Taylor, Tanner Fox, Robert Steed, Jimmy Baker, and Charles Henneke.
