Doris Lucille Dunnell Koehl, formerly of Victoria, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at the age of 91 with her family by her side. She was born December 13, 1926 in Pine River, MN to the late Adolph Jacob and Iva Fern Burley Dunnell. Doris was a devoted wife to her husband of 65 years and a loving mother while continuing to work as an RN in Kountze and Victoria where the family lived. Even after retirement from nursing, Doris wasn’t ready to slow down. She stayed busy volunteering with the Lutheran Church Women collecting items for those in need all over the world, worked at VCAM, participated in the Stephens Ministry serving in a lay-ministry position visiting hospitalized patients offering comfort and encouraging words, and was involved in other community based ministries.
One of Doris’ favorite past times was genealogy. She loved researching family history, recording her findings and then writing a Koehl history book.
Doris is survived by her spouse, Rawley Robert Koehl; children, Cheryl Meadows and husband Bill, of Gonzales, Cynthia Adcock and husband Carroll, of Temple, Bradley Koehl and wife Mary, of Belton, and Celeste Johnson of Greenville, SC; brother, Arthur Dunnell and wife Mona, of The Villages, FL, and sister-in-law Elaine Dunnell of Victoria. Doris adored her twelve grandchildren, Brad Adcock and wife, Teresa, of Belton, Justin Adcock and Cassie Pittman of Austin, Charla Hunt and husband, Bill, of Lott; Christopher Koehl and wife, Mercy, of San Antonio, Timothy Koehl of Belton, Sarah Smith and husband, Capt. Ethan, of Okinawa, Japan, Kevin Koehl of Belton, Kaitlynn Koehl of Lewisville, Tamara Boyanoski and husband, John, of Greenville, SC, Brett Johnson of Anchorage, AL, and Kelsey and Garrett Johnson of Greenville, SC; and six great grandchildren, Rachel and Evelyn Adcock of Belton, Kash Hunt of Lott, Kit Boyanoski of Greenville, SC and Paden and Sawyer Boothe of Angleton.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels in Victoria. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Christ the Victor Lutheran Church located at 202 Stanly Street in Victoria with Rev. Cheryl Kester-Schmidt of Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, and Rev. Heath Abel of Covenant Lutheran Church, Temple officiating. Following a meal at the church, interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8919 North Highway 87, Victoria, Texas, 77901.
Pallbearers will be Bryan and Justin Adcock, Christopher, Timothy, and Kevin Koehl, Paden and Sawyer Boothe and Garrett Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Capt. Ethan Smith, son-in-law to Bradley, Bill Hunt, son-in-law to Cynthia Adcock, Brett Johnson and John Boyanoski, sons of Celeste Johnson.
