Dorothy Jane Dornak went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2013, after a long illness. Born in St. John, TX on Valentine’s Day, 1924, to the late Charles and Janie Peters, Dorothy grew up in Midfield, TX. She married her late husband, Steve, in 1944 and settled in Victoria in 1948. Dorothy was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She was a homemaker and seamstress most of her life. In the early 60’s, she worked at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School cafeteria until she brought her seamstress skills to Comal Cottons, retiring from there in 1981. After that she enjoyed doing alterations, baking her delicious kolaches for the annual Victoria Czech Fest and many other occasions, and was known for her chicken salad sandwiches, cakes, and pies served at the KC bingos. Over the years, she was active in the OLV Altar Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters – Court St. Ann.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, her husband Steve J. Dornak, and sister Martha Marek. She is survived by her sister, Henrietta Bram of Danevang, sons, Steve and wife Jodie of Houston, Tommy and wife Cathy of Victoria, Mary Jane and husband Bill Florez of Houston, and Charlene and husband Charles “Bobby” Stevens of Victoria. She is also survived by grandchildren Steve Dornak (Carrie), Chris Dornak (Tami), Melissa Vardeman, Candace Hathaway (Jeff), David Florez (Ashley), Julianna Fernandez (Richard), Charles Stevens (Roma), Lisa Veneralla (Avrien), Catherine Stevens, and Joseph Florez; also great-grandchildren Alexandria and MacKenzie Dornak, Garrett and Cullen Dornak, Colton Hathaway, Madison, Meredith and Makayla Florez, Gabriel, Jacqueline and Nicholas Fernandez, Asha Stevens, and George and Henry Veneralla.
Visitation will be at Rosewood Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m. with rosary following at 7. Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral on Wed., Jan. 30, 10 a.m. with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandson.
