Guy Alfred “Andy” Devine passed peacefully at home on the 13th of December. Dr. Devine was born on the 19th of March 1944 in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1962, earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Georgia in 1966, and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Georgia Medical School in 1970.
After completing his internship at Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX, he served as a flight surgeon during the Vietnam War as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Upon completing his military service, he and his wife Aileen moved to Memphis, TN, where he completed his Ophthalmology Residency.
In 1977, Andy and Aileen moved back to Texas and settled in Victoria where he started a private ophthalmology practice. He served on several boards throughout the region for over 20 years including the Victoria YMCA and Alligator Head Club in Port O’Connor. He retired from medical practice in 2001 after years of dedicated service to his patients.
Andy was an avid fisherman and hunter and cherished the years he spent on the bay in Port O’Connor and Rockport. He loved the Texas Gulf Coast almost as much as he loved his family. His numerous hobbies included fishing, playing his guitars (acoustic and electric), golf, and a brief flirtation with oil painting. His office staff hung his most well-known piece, “The Cowboy”, prominently in the back hallway of his office next to the medicine room.
He never lost his thick southern drawl nor wavered in his commitment to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Aileen Leigh Devine, and his children, Leigh Fleming Devine and Neely Procter Devine. He was preceded in death by his mother Nell Fleming Devine and his uncles the Honorable William Marvin Fleming and John Fleming.
The family also wishes to express their appreciation for Bob, Mark, Hayden, and Hunter Redding, whom Andy loved as family.
