
E'Lane was born on November 7, 1918 in Victoria, Texas at the home of her Aunt Mable Wallace Sasse. She was the daughter of Jennings Drake and Alma Wallace Carlisle and was for 49 years the wife of Howard F. (Mickey) Murray. She was the mother of three children, Dale D. Murray, Michael B. Murray and Robin Murray.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dale D. Murray and three brothers; Jennings D. Carlisle, Jr., Bruce Wallace Carlisle and Thornton Hastings Carlisle.
Mrs. Murray graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1935 and attended the University of San Antonio, a member of the class of forty one. During World War II she worked in the priority department at Duncan Field in San Antonio and as a secretary at the Motor Depot in Fort Sam Houston.
In 1952 she moved with her family from San Antonio to Corpus Christi where her husband was transferred as comptroller with Holt Machinery Company.
At the time she became a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, a member of the Jane Addams Build and later a member of St. Francis Guild. In 1960 she became parish secretary for the Church of the Good Shepherd where she continued until her resignation in 1980. She worked as secretary for Joseph L. Brown and for Charles J. Dobbins.
She then pursued her interest in writing and became a member of the Byliners of Corpus Christi. Her poetry was published in numerous magazines including Christian Science Moniter, Modern Maturity, Ideals and Children's Playmate.
As a member of the Poetry Society of Texas she won the William E. Bard Book Award and Eakin Press publishing her book of poetry The Lace of Tough Mesquite: a Texas Heritage. Southern Living published two of her essays, A Different Rose and A Bird For Miss Alma. She wrote a monthly column for South Texas Informer and Business Journal for 15 years.
She was president of several PTAs and was a PTA life member. She served as Byliner's president for the 1985-86 term, president of the Clara Driscoll Chapter DRT from 1989 through 1991, president of the Woman's Monday Club 1992-1996. One of her continuing interest was a poetry round robin begun in 1986.
She is survived by her son Michael B. Murray and her daughter Robin Murray Russell, her grandchildren, Michael Shane Murray, Brandon Paul Murray, Eric Swade Owen, Lee Brian Kenney, Sheila Murray, James M. (Amber) Murray, Gina (Mike) Sprinkle. She has ten great grand children: Blake M. Murray, Swade and Ashley Owen, C'yera and Preston Sprinkle, David and Daniel Piper, Julian Pizzano, Ryan and James Michael Murray.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 2 PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi, TX.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Church of the Good Shepherd or to the charity of your choice.
