

Emmett Cole Jr., 87, of Victoria went to be with his Lord on June 7, 2017, and join his beloved wife of 68 years, Elsie Ruth Porter Cole, who passed away last summer. He was born March 23, 1930, in Olivia, TX, to the late Wesley Emmett Cole, Sr. and Albin Wynn Cole.
After graduating from the University of Houston School of Law in 1953, Emmett became one of the founding members of the Law Firm of Cole and Rhodes in 1954, and 63 years later, his legacy of law continues with his sons, Jim and Chuck Cole, grandson, Will Sciba, at his law firm now known as Cole, Easley, Sciba & Williams, PC. In 2011, Emmett Cole retired after 58 years of practicing law and spent his retirement tending to his family and longhorn cattle and playing golf. In 2000, the City of Victoria and the Victoria city council in a proclamation signed by Mayor Pro Tem, Bill Russell, proclaimed March 23, 2000, as Emmett Cole, Jr. Day in recognition of his service to the community as a generous and ethical attorney who had inspired many throughout the years. He was also awarded The Legacy Award by the Victoria County Bar Association in 2009.
Emmett was a founding member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and as a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years and remained a member to his death.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy (Bill) Sciba, Cheryl (Mike) Olson; sons, Wes (Barbara) Cole, Jim (Donna) Cole, Chuck (Danna) Cole, all of Victoria; sister-in-laws, Mary Cole and Betty Cole of Corpus Christi; 21 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Emmett’s life will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Ewing officiating.
