Erna Annie Martha Born Prukop was born in Westoff, Texas, on Christmas day in 1925 to Henry and Lydia Schulle Born. Erna was the fourth oldest of nine children. The family eventually moved to Edna, Texas, where Erna graduated third in her class from Edna High School. Later she attended Western Union School. Erna was called to her eternal home on December 27, 2018, at the age of 93.
Erna married Alphonse (Fonsey) A. Prukop on October 28, 1944, in Altus, Oklahoma. They made their home in Inez, Texas, where they were blessed with four children.
Erna was an active member in her church and community. A lifelong Lutheran, she was a woman of great faith, making sure her children knew Jesus Christ. As a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez, Erna served as president of the ladies group, WELCA, for many years and faithfully taught Sunday school classes.
Erna was a great cook, known for her “Erna burgers” that she served at Fonsey’s store. She was also an excellent seamstress, gardener and beloved grandmother.
Erna was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse (Fonsey) Prukop; parents, Henry and Lydia Born; brothers: Elmer, Norman and George Born; sisters: Hilda Lippe, Ella Baros and Rose Marie Scott.
Erna is survived by her four children: Sandra (Gerry) Shore of Inez, Sharon (Gerald) Pargac of LaGrange, Gary (Connie) Prukop of Rockport and Kim (Ron) Smith of Inez. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Anderson of Edna; and one brother, Clarence Born of Round Rock.
Visitation will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez, Texas, on Monday, December 31, 2018, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Inez.
Pallbearers: Fonsie Smith, Gerry Shore, Clipper Strickland, Ronald Luster, Cal Benaglio, and Chris Fojtik. Honorary Pallbearers: Eric Pargac, Brian Pargac and Kevin Feldman.
